MEET THE MEMBER - STEVE ROCHE

Name:  Steve Roche

Nickname:  I never really had a nickname to be honest although I have been called “cider steve” on occasion

Favourite Food/Music: Italian hands down! I grew up in the middle of Oasis’s take off so I was into them however I think i was born the the wrong era as my usual cds in the car tend to be the eagles and the beatles

Favourite Quote: The important things in life aren’t things

Apart from Rugby what other hobbies do you have:  Eating, drinking and playing golf. I have been known to do all three at once…

Years involved in Rugby/Associated with NRRFC:  Current season is my 20th pulling on a jersey with Ross

Club Role:  Club Captain

Best moment seen in rugby:  Watching the Haka live always gives me goose bumps but tops has to be in Croke Park 2007. Standing on Hill 16, Ire vs Eng, for Amhrán na bhFiann was unforgettable.

Favourite Club moment:  Fourths winning the Michael Dunne Cup in 2013. Watching some of our club greats getting their hands on silverware seeing what it still meant to them was brilliant

Proudest Individual NRRFC moment: Everytime I lead out the team. Captaining and representing this club is a huge honour for me

If you were to describe NRRFC to someone what would you say:  Like a family. Whether you are a parent bringing in your little fella to minis, graduating from youth to seniors, involved in the ladies section or a complete new face arriving for training for the first time you will be warmly welcomed into the Rugby Club Family.

And Finally tell us something about yourself that people might not know: I’m a Trekkie! I even went to 2 Star Trek conventions when i was (a lot) younger….
